Ohlasy na BSS 2018

Po dlouhé době a snad i v naději, že se ještě nějaké příspěvky sejdou, dáváme na stránky výsledek našeho dotazu či požadavku na zpětnou vazbu od účastníků BSS 2018. Pořádáme tuto akci již 17 let a nechceme při její realizaci ustrnout na zažitých schématech a dopřávat si mocných doušků sebeuspokojení. Snažíme se sami k sobě býti kritičtí, ale rádi bychom znali pohledy i z jiných stran. Proto každoročně míří k účastníkům letní školy požadavek na zpětnou vazbu a není důležité, zda bude slohově obsáhlá a nebo jen stručná. Zde předkládáme výsledek letošních reakcí účastníků letní školy. Nesešlo se jich sice moc, ale o to jsou cennější. Díky Vám za ně.

 

Milý organizační týme BSS 2018,

opět velký dík za organizaci letošní školy! Jako vždy perfektní – rád bych něco vytknul či doporučil ke zlepšení, ale skutečně mě nic nenapadá. Doporučuji ponechat letní školu přesně takovou, jaká je!
Šestidenní výuka v kuse je opravdu extrémním prověřením duševních sil (zejména při více lekcích), ale to už asi nějak k letní škole patří (a nenapadá mě žádný způsob, jak v takto zhuštěném čase ulehčit…).
Letos jsem se zúčastnil lekcí Irštiny a harfy. Vedení obou lekcí skvělé, dostalo se mi všeho, co jsem očekával (a mnohem víc). Lektoři nejlepší myslitelní, ale nic jiného jsem ostatně od BSS ani nečekal…
Takže ohromný dík Vendy, Michalovi, celému organizačnímu týmu i účastníkům za úžasnou atmosféru!
Už teď se těším na příští ročník…

Dobrý den,
letošní BSS jsem si jako už tradičně velice užil. Zejména večerní sessions stály za to. Tento ročník jsem navštěvoval lekce fingerpicking kytary, lekce mi přišly velice zajímavé, i když bych ocenil kdyby byly větší výzvou, zejména co se týče počtu naučených skladeb. Také mi u těchto lekcí chyběla provázanost s ostatními hudebními lekcemi, jak už bývá zvykem na závěrečném večeru. Pro příští ročník bych za sebe rád viděl v seznamu hudebních lekcí doprovodnou DADGAD kytaru, myslím, že by o ní byl zájem. Letos jsme museli přemluvit Romana Táborského k odučení pár lekcí pro zájemce. Tyto lekce mi daly opravdu hodně a vůbec se nebojím doporučit Romana, jako případného lektora doprovodné kytary na příští ročník.

Ahoj, tak za mě můžu říct jen, že se mi BSS opět líbila a možná víc než loňská, ačkoliv nemůžu říct čím tak bylo
Táta říkal, že pochvaly tě tolik nezajímají jako spíš ty nedostatky, které by jsi chtěl vylepšit, ovšem jediný nedostatek, který mě napadá je, že to bylo krátký, ale nejsem si jistá, že s tím lze něco udělat… jediný co, tak (píšu to spíš za taťku, protože jemu tenhle email nepřišel) by bylo možná fajn kdyby byly i lekce doprovodné kytary a zaslechla jsem, že by se na to potenciálně ,,hodil,, Roman, který už tátovi sám nabízel, že by mu nějak zkusil poradit, ale pak na to nedošlo….
Tímto ti děkuji a těším se na příští rok, pokud tedy budu moct dorazit :-}

Zacnem tym, ze BSS som si tento rok nesmierne uzil, a som neskutocne rad, ze sa po tom, ako to vyzeralo kriticky s nizkou ucastou, napokon uskutocnila.Co sa tyka lekcii: Pevne dufam, ze Robert Harvey bude ucit irish flute i buduci rok, bol to fakt skvely lektor 🙂 popr. ak nie on tak snad zozeniete rovnako kvalitneho lektora.
K rozvrhu: Viem ze je to velmi tazke poskladat rozvrh a vyjst kazdemu v ustrety, kazdopadne z pocutia viem, ze par ludi bolo sklamanych z toho, ze vsetky melodicke nastroje boli v rovnaku dobu, a museli si tym padom vybrat len 1 nastroj…
Taktiez, k teme fingerpicking gitary, bola to rozhodne zaujimava novinka, avsak som mal pocit (a nebol som jediny),  ze ludom slo skor o DADGAD gitaru ako doprovodny nastroj. Zaroven nam to ako vedlajsi produkt zial „ubralo“ v zaverecnom veceri na rytmickom doprovode…
Nie som sice gitarista a v blizkej buducnosti asi ani nebudem, ale ked mozem hovorit za nich (popr niektori mozno uz poslali feedback?) tak by rozhodne ocenili viac DADGAD gitaru. A ak by sa nenasiel lektor, tak preco nie napr. Martin z Plzne alebo Roman Taborsky? (ten uz tento rok neoficialne doucal ludi, ktorym fingerpicking nestacil)…
Inak Kubov usmev super, Tomove masaze ako bonus takisto super, nic dalsie mi nenapada 🙂 Pevne dufam ze i buduci rok to vyjde , resp snad trosku hladsie co sa tyka ucasti 🙂 Takze este raz dakujem sa super tyzden!!!
O DVD mam rozhodne zaujem. Mam peniaze poslat rovno? Kedy bude cca dokoncene? (pytam sa pretoze 17-20.9. budem v Prahe osobne)

Milý pane Bernarde,

ještě jednou mnohokrát děkujeme za možnost zúčastit se letní školy.

Na konci emailu jsem přiložila Feedback od Anny (té, co pořád čte) – tak jak mi ji předala v němčině a angličtině.
Každopádně se nám u Vás moc líbilo a já ze své strany musím zdůraznit, že pro mě bylo velmi příjemné se setkat s tolika zapálenými a pozitivně nastavenými lidmi, které svou lásku k irské kultuře ať už v jakémkoli oboru předávají dál. Pro nás obě byl jak úvodní večer tak i středeční Ceilii velkým obohacením celého týdne, které zejména pro mojí dceru bylo nahlédnutím k společenské stránce irského tance, který do té doby znala jen ze soutěžních setkání. Odnesly jsme si určitě spoustu pozitivních zážitků, za které Vám i celému týmu moc děkujeme. Rádi se letní školy zúčastníme i v budoucnosti.

Der diesjährige Workshop der Bernard’s Summer School, der mein erster war, hat meine Technik verbessert und mich viel gelehrt. Er ist sehr anstrengt, doch ohne Arbeit keine Belohnung. Die Aufwärmphase war jeden Tag ausreichend und das vielfältige Dehnen am Ende der drei Stunden hat trotz intensivem Training Muskelkater verhindert. Die Ceilies haben viel Spaß gemacht und brachten reichlich Abwechslung in die Workshopwoche.
Alles in allem fand ich den Workshop sehr gelungen. Trotz des keinen Vorfalls (Die Geburt eines Babys), wegen dem unser eigentlicher Lehrer Andrej Mikulka am ersten Tag von Jason O’Neill vertreten wurde. Doch auch dies hatte eine sehr gute Seite. Ich lernte Jason etwas näher kennen und wie Training für etwas bessere Tänzer als mich aussah. Neue Freundschaften wurden geknüpft und Bekanntschaften gemacht. Ich hoffe, dass ich auch nächstes Jahr wieder an der Bernard’s summer School teilnehmen kann und das dieses Feedback ausreichend war. Danke für die tolle Woche. Anna Hank

This year’s Bernard’s Summer School workshop, which was my first one, has improved my technique and taught me a lot. It was very hard for me but without work no reward. The warm-up phase was sufficient each day and the varied stretching at the end of the three hours has prevented muscle soreness despite intensive training. The Ceilies were a lot of fun and brought Variety in the workshop week.
All in all, I found the workshop very successful. We’re trained by Jason O’Neill on the first day instead of our trainer Andrej Mikulka . But this had a very good side too. I’ve got known Jason a bit more and how training for better dancers than me looks like. New friendships and acquaintances has been made. I hope I can attend Bernard’s summer School next year again and that this feedback was sufficient. Thanks for the great week. Anna Hank

 

Spätná väzba:S hodinami s Jasonom som veľmi spokojná. Myslím, že všetci pri ňom rýchlo napredujeme a má skvelý postreh pri hľadaní našich tanečných nedostatkov a chýb. Okrem toho úžasne tancuje, čo ukázal aj v Ponci 😀 Myslím, že taký tanečník sa dá nájsť len ťažko a preto dúfam, že príde aj o rok.
Užívala som si aj sešny a páčilo sa mi, že tam chodili aj hudobní lektori. Bolo by fajn, ak by nabudúce priniesli nejaké svoje CD – určite by som kúpila.
Škoda len že záverečná session sa robí ďaleko od školy a nie všetkým (vrátane mňa) vyhovuje ísť v takom neskorom čase tak ďaleko na session takže sme sa rozdelili na dve skupinky a niektorí ostali v telocvični.

Nejdřív všem „Bernards“ díky za už léta skvěle připravovanou akci. Je to perfekt počin. Jediné, co jsem na letošní letní škole postrádala, byl ÚČASTNICKÝ LIST !Ty jo, tolik let si to schovávám – schválně jsem koukala, mám je od r. 2007. I Jura a Lucie…
No a taky to vždycky předložím ve škole, aby viděli, že se jen neválím u moře…

Here’s a short feedback regarding this year’s summer school.
I suppose that the two main points are:
– Did I enjoy attending it – Very.
– Would I come next year – Yes, definitely.

As for the details on the organization and the rest –

Major negative points –
(Remark – This is my opinion as a side observer. I would see with Stefan, our Serbian participant, if he could provide a more detailed insight) Regarding the guitar lessons, my perception was that they were too basic, and progressing too slow. Also, in Stefan’s case I suppose that guitar tune accompaniment would be more interesting than tune fingerpicking.
Some minor observations and possibility for improvement –
Not speaking Czech language proved to be somewhat an issue for tin whistle lessons. Here I must say that Anka really put an effort in teaching in English. But, because I was the only non-Czech speaker, and because it was cumbersome for her to speak English, discussion ever once in a while reverted to Czech. This made me lost at times because it was impossible to join the conversation. I suppose this can also be an issue in other classes, hence the remark. Not sure what can be done about it, though.
(Remark – This wasn’t an issue for me this time, but I overheard a complaint once or twice so I thought it would be a good thing to share it) Seems that classes were packet too tightly, so it was in some situations an issue to get to the next class in time, or having to leave current class early because of the next one. If there would be some 10-15 minute breaks between consecutive classes, that would significantly improve things.
Next year we definitely need to get a mop for the ground floor shower room. At first it is ok, but as the week progresses dirt get accumulated there. I suppose no one would complain cleaning after him/herself.
Good things –
I would like to compliment both of my teachers.
Lilting – Robert Harvey held the lessons in a relaxed and casual way, yet setting a solid pace, and constantly working with us on improving our performance. I had a solid amount of fun, and at the same time got the sort of singing practice that I was looking for. And also learned a couple of new tunes, which should not be disregarded at all.
Tin whistle – I must say that, as a relative beginner I am rather satisfied with the lessons. Anka Šůrová did a really good work considering that the attendees were at approximately three different experience levels. A good bunch of easy, and not that easy tunes, valuable technique tips and hints, and what I also liked, an individual approach to sorting out playing issues. Also we had a lot of fun preparing the final evening performance.

Getting David Dvořák to lead the welcome ceili was a really nice touch. I’m not sure if I would take country dances lesson, but I’m happy for the opportunity to get a short intro to them.
Regarding the next year, here are my current thoughts, I suppose that can also be useful. I am most probably going to go again with two lessons. Three last year was a bit too much, and this is just fine. As for the lessons, I suppose that some preferences would be –

Tin whistle
Lilting
Sean nos dance with some foreign lecturer – I had a really good time with Mick Mullkerin two years ago.
Set dance – Last year with Gerard Butler was great.
Once more, had a really good time this year, and hope to repeat that the next one. Thanks a lot for organization, and best regards to you, Lenka, Markéta and Tereza.

dostala jsem za úkol odpovědět Vám, na Vaši žádost o hodnocení BSS 2018. Mám napsat, že to bylo supééér a že se jí líbilo vše i Kubův úsměv .
Moc děkujeme za vše i za krásný zážitek v divadle Ponec. Příští rok se zúčastní opět letní školy. Hezký den a mnoho úspěchů v novém školním roce.

Dobrý den,

letní školy jsem se zúčastnila poprvé a moc se mi líbila. Zpočátku jsem z toho měla strach, protože se irským tancům (softu) věnuji teprve od letošního ledna a nebyla jsem si jistá, jestli to zvládnu, ale vše bylo fajn, Andrej je skvělý lektor a školu jsem si užila. Hned první den, kdy i nás začátečníky učil Jason, byl taková třešnička na dortu.

Dobrý den, letošní letní školu považuje moje dcera Viktorka za zatím nejlepší. Lekce s jasonem i Markétou si moc užívala, na puchýře nehleděla, závěrečný večer se líbil nám všem… Měl báječnou atmosféru. Děkujeme za organizaci, které není co vytknout a těšíme se na další ročník. I had never participated in Bernard’s summer school before, and even though my friends warmly recommended it, I had my doubts participating. But I decided to give it a try and I am very glad that I did. I loved it!
I liked that the organisers were all very friendly and helpful, and I also liked the organisation. Unfortunately, I could not take part of the welcoming céilí night as I hadn’t slept practically at all since Friday morning and proved to be too tired to go anywhere on Saturday night, but I think it a wonderful idea to give the participants a chance to meet each other before the classes start. I also really like that there is a performance on last night that gives everybody a chance to show what they have learned, and as importantly, to see what others have been learning.
I realize that there were many classes that had to take place at different times, but I really appreciated that the class I was in finished in the afternoon, which gave me plenty of time also to explore this beautiful city that I visited for the first time. I know that if I do come back next year(s), this might not be the case, but fortunately, then I have already seen some of wonderful Prague.
Me and my friend did not use the possibility to stay overnight in the school, but I consider it a significant bonus to have this option, especially as I understand quite many participants did use it. A minor thing, but I really appreciated that there was free water for drinking at all times, especially taking the blissfully nice summer weather into account – the dance classes were physically demanding and having an opportunity to refill your water bottle to drink during the breaks helped a great deal.
As for the class itself, I was a bit worried beforehand as Jason looked so stern on the advertisement photo and I did not know what to expect. But he turned out to be a dream teacher! I have nothing but praise for his friendly and supporting personality as well as his teaching methods and his classes overall. I sincerely hope he will teach primary class (as I know I am not yet good enough to participate in the open class) next year as well, because then I would really like to try to come back for another week that I know would be as wonderful as this was. Besides preparing for the final evening, Jason taught us a lot about technique in his class, which made me think how good it would be if he could also give a separate class that focuses solely on getting the technique right, I would definitely be interested in that one as well.
In overall, it was a wonderful week, so thank you for doing this!
Also, I am interested in buying the DVD as it would be a wonderful memento.

Letošní BSS si stále udržela vysokou kvalitu a užil jsem si to stejně jako minulý rok a těším se na další ročník. Rodině se závěrečný večer líbil ještě více než minulý rok. Nesmím zapomenout pochválit Kubu, který vždy s úsměvem podal potřebné informace.

Zdravím,

nebudu se moc rozepisovat, protože jsem vám své dojmy měl možnost sdělit ještě ve škole.
Housle vedl Ultan v milé atmosféře, kluk je to usměvavej. Ale hlavně trpělivě vysvětloval, ukazoval. Mělo to hlavu a patu, strukturu (společná hra, různá cvičení na obě ruce, „ozdoby“). Z průběhu hodin jsem nadšený. A to že je to PAN muzikant, o tom žádná.
Moc díky, že jste vytvořili tento hudební prostor a pro mě možnost seminář absolvovat. Kde mohu vás doporučuji a doufám, že se budeme moci podobně potkat i za rok.

Firstly, I definitely want to have the DVD of the final evening and you have my permission to use my comments publicly.
Feedback. This was my first year in Bernard’s summer school and I absolutely loved it! I had the Irish language lesson and primary level Irish dance.

Irish language is not taught anywhere near me, so it was a nice opportunity to get to know what this language is about, learn its structures etc. No one learns a language in a week, but this was a very good introduction. The teacher knew a lot about the language and culture and I liked that he shared interesting facts with us about Irish people, country, and everyday life. He knew how to make learning efficient.

I absolutely loved the dance class. Jason is one of the best dance teachers I’ve had and I really liked his methods. He understood the level of dancers there well and taught us accordingly. Besides being a good teacher he was very friendly to everybody and motivated us a lot to keep getting better and encouraged us to step out of our comfort zone. I liked that he was strict, because I believe that is the only way to get results. The course was a real challenge and I feel I gained so much. At the same time it wasn’t too hard. So I got exactly what I came there for. If he would teach some class the next year, I would definitely come back.

In general I liked the way the whole summer school was organized – it’s clear you have a long experience of doing that. I think the final evening is a nice motivation for the participants, so that they can show what they have achieved in a week.

Maybe next time it would be better if there was like a 5-minute break between classes. For example the language course officially ended 11.30 and the dance class officially started 11.30. Since I’m quite a punctual person I always started to think about 10 minutes before the language class ended that do I have enough time to change clothes etc, because I don’t like to be late. That means that for the last 10 minutes I wasn’t actually listening what the teacher said. In dance classes maybe it would also be better to put children in one group and adults in the other. Sometimes it felt that time was wasted because children didn’t understand English that well, although their dance level was definitely high!

All in all I am very happy that I decided to come to Prague and I hope to join the summer school next year too. Thank you for organizing this, you are doing an amazing job!
