CIBCA – konečně nacházím smysl

Pro ty, kdo neví, co těchto pět písmen znamená, rád představím: Czech Irish Business & Cultural Association. Jde o sdružení lidí z oblasti podnikatelské a v poslední době i kulturní, kteří mají vztah k Irsku. Tito lidé se převážně nacházejí v Praze a jde převážně o cizince a nebo lidi či organizace z podnikatelské sféry. V minulosti se toto sdružení nazývalo jen CIBA a nejen v názvu ignorovalo irské kulturní prostředí v naší zemi. Přišlo mi vždycky, že jde o takovou snobskou společnost, jejíž činnost se orientovala každoměsíčně na nějaké společenské setkání a pokud něco podporovala, tak to byly aktivity velmi úzce spojené s jejími členy. Alespoň tak to vypadalo navenek. V době presidentování Mary Keane si toto společenství přidalo do názvu ještě jedno „C“. Toto se stalo 11. září 2012, kdy změna v názvu byla vyhlášena u příležitosti návštěvy ministra irské vlády Briana Hayese v rezidenci velvyslankyně Irska v České republice paní Alison Kelly.

Bohužel nic v orientaci na podporu irské kultury se zde nezměnilo. Podnikatelské kruhy využívaly i nadále toto sdružení ke společenským setkáním a my ostatní, kteří jsme tady v podstatě tu kulturu tvořili, jsme zase žili svým životem. Naděje podpory irské kultury v Česku, kterou vzbudil velvyslanec Irska Joe Hayes v letech 2001 – 2005, kdy zval na akce vedoucí hudebních a tanečních skupin zaměřených na irskou kulturu na různá setkání, který zorganizoval setkání tanečnic a tanečníků z taneční show LOTD aj., se přidáním dalšího C do názvu CIBA nenaplnily. O tom svědčí i skutečnost, že v historii mé korespondence s touto organizací jsou sice poslední emaily a zprávy z roku 2024, ale ty předchozí jsou až z roku 2012.

Výraznou změnu v projevu existence CIBCA jsem zaznamenal až v polovině letošního roku, kdy došlo k zásadní obměně výboru CIBCA. Najednou se objevily stránky zvoucí zájemce na různá setkání, objevil se kalendář akcí, kde – světě div se – se objevily upoutávky na akce hudebních a tanečních skupin ve velmi širokém rozsahu, na facebooku CIBCA podporuje jednotlivé akce či pozvánky na ně a zřejmě se členská základna CIBCA obohatila o nové mladé tváře těch, kteří tady jsou těmi největšími příznivci irské kultury a kteří se v této záležitosti výrazně aktivně podílejí. CIBCA asi nepomůže sehnat prostředky na ambicioznější akce, které by si Česko s ohledem na irskou kulturu zasloužilo. Nicméně je tu vidět podpora těm, kteří se tu o povědomí o irské kultuře starají a CIBCA se už netváří jako společenství výlučných jedinců a organizací, kteří v jejím rámci pěstují svůj business. Proto si myslím, že je dobré si představit aktuální výbor CIBCA (převzato ze stránek CIBCA a je ponecháno v původním jazyku):

James Porter – President

Recently, he captivated audiences with his portrayal of Pantalone in The Servant of Two Masters at the New Visions Theatre in Prague.
 

Martina Price – Vice President
 
Your go-to for all things Irish in the Czech Republic. A CIBCA member since 2018, she stepped into the VP role three months ago, ready to shake things up. Before that, she founded and led the Dublin Draiochta Dragons Quidditch Club, proving that magic and leadership go hand in hand.

 
Now back in Prague full time, Martina runs the ever-popular Social Book Club, the highlight of the month for anyone with good taste. With her marketing savvy and social media prowess, she’s the one behind the scenes scouting out new members and responding to your messages with just the right touch.

Marta Širůčková – Honorary Secretary
 
Born and bred in the charming town of Znojmo, South Moravia—famous for its wine, apricots, and pickled cucumbers—Marta decided to shake things up by moving to Prague. She dove into International Trade and Commercial Languages at the University of Economics (VŠE), but that was just the beginning.

 
Marta’s link to Ireland? Oh, just a casual two-decade stint with Enterprise Ireland, where she’s been the go-to person for Irish companies expanding into Central and Southeast Europe.
When she’s not helping businesses conquer new markets, Marta lets her creative side shine, crafting unique jewelry that turns heads. She brought her flair to the CIBCA Committee in November 2022, and since then, she’s been in the role of Honorary Secretary.
 

John McCollum – Treasurer
 
Originally hailing from Holywood, John first landed in Prague in 2010 and has been bouncing between here, Dublin, and Myanmar ever since. He met his wife, Hana, at a St. Patrick’s Ball back in 2005 when it was still CIBA—destiny clearly has good taste.

 
With a decade of fundraising experience in the UK under his belt, John brings those skills to his role at CIBCA, ensuring the finances are as sharp as his wit. A self-proclaimed “enthusiastic” golfer (read: firmly average), John’s on a mission to play every golf course Prague has to offer before the end of next year. Game on!
 

Garret Byrne – Ordinary Member

 
Garret Byrne has been a dedicated member of CIBCA since its inception in the 1990s. Over the years, his commitment and leadership have seen him serve in various Committee roles, including multiple terms as President. His extensive experience and passion for the organisation have made him a key figure in shaping CIBCA’s growth and success. Outside of his involvement with CIBCA, Garret runs his own business advisory service, providing expert guidance and support to his clients. His blend of professional expertise and dedication to the community has made him a highly valued member of the organisation.

Držím palce CIBCAe, doufám, že ještě posílí svůj vliv na irskou kulturu v Česku a žádný další výbor v budoucnosti už nepodleze tuto nasazenou laťku a nezmění zase tuto organizaci na pouhou společenskou sešlost pro posílení osobních ambicí a vlivu.
